But today, today as I braided my daughter's hair, I had an ah-ha moment. I am freaking awesome and you are too! It take a lot of awesome to do what we do. We apply sunscreen and we pick up dirty socks. We sign permission slips and know where their favorite T-shirt is. We help with long division and wipe snotty noses.
Here comes the awesome part - we do this day in and day out for years - a merry go round of triviality. We might get tired and weary, but tomorrow we'll wake up and make a conscious decision to get back on that merry-go-round. We may have a day here and there when we are cranky and grumpy, but for the most part we jump back on with words of kindness, smiles and hugs. Amazing, right?
We tell ourselves, enjoy it. They will be gone all too soon and then the house will be quiet and neat and we will hate it. So we take these brief moment to push aside the weariness and enjoy. In those moments, we pause the merry-go-round and recharge for the next go round.
To all of us who manage to hold on for the next go round and still keep tenderness in our hearts for our family, I say to you - "You are freaking amazing! Keep up the good work!"
